The Dog Days of Summer

E. G. Stone · Jul 20, 2020 · Leave a Comment

Summer and I do not get along. At all. There are about two weeks in the middle of spring where I think, “Hmm, maybe it would be nice to sit out in the sun and be warm.” And then the heat hits and I realise that those thoughts were Not A Good Idea.

Basically, I don’t like the heat. At all. And the dryness that comes with said heat is equally irritating. Everything feels like it moves slowly, like solidified jello. Thinking becomes harder because there is another obstacle to battle. Not to mention normal things like exercising are just awful. And food! My goodness, trying to figure out what foods to eat in the summer is actually really difficult for me.

Well, this is rather a depressing post so far, but I promise I did have a point. I think.

The point was that despite summer doing its best to beat me down, I am making progress! The Wing Cycle is now off with the editor for editing and I have contacted my cover designer to get the cover all sorted. Put everything together and I’m thinking that publication come the third or so week of August will do quite nicely.

I am also moving forwards in my On Behalf of Death series. I have the first two books complete (minus edits on the second) and am in the middle of writing book three. So far, I’m 22k words in, which is actually a decent amount of progress considering I’m planning on 60k(ish) for the project. Though, considering the way my brain is working (that is, too many ideas) I may revise that number.

So, the point of this post is to sort of laugh in the face of summer and say that I am making progress. Of course, I shan’t laugh too loudly, because the Universe has a bad habit of turning the tables on me. (In our continuous struggle, the Universe often wins.) I hope all is well and shall say, “Onwards! Tally ho!”
