One thing about being a professional creative is that I get to spend my time coming up with ideas for my work. I have had a few times in my life (prior to doing this full-time) where my ideas have stalled and I haven’t known what, exactly, to write next. But most of the time, I have a very good idea of what to write, draw, make, create next. Now? Now I have so many ideas that I have a feeling I’m going to be quite busy for many years to come.
Part of the multitude of ideas comes from the fact that I am doing more than just writing. I do YouTube, wherein I interview other fantastic creators, read a myriad of books and create my own content revolving around the world of words. I draw comics (on a very, very part-time basis at this point) and enjoy doodling out ideas and stories a good deal. I am going to get into the world of audiobook/radio drama podcasting, which brings into the fold the element of foley art and mixing music found through creative commons licenses together with narration in a variety of voices and accents. I have ideas for sewing projects (a side hobby, because I have too much that I already do for my job) and baking (chocolate!). I am turning a vintage typewriter into a desk organiser, because it would be a waste to just throw the beautiful machine out because it requires too much money and specialty parts for fixing. Somewhere in there, I have free time. I think.
Honestly, even though I have so many ideas that it is impossible to get to them all, I am having a grand time. I love the ability to explore the creative. I love the fact tht I have stories that will keep me busy for years to come. I am learning and expanding my craft. It’s as much about the journey as it is the finished project and it is absolutely worthwhile.
So, yes, I have a glut of ideas. Yes, I started writing out more stories. Yes, I’m going to be super busy for a very long time. You know what? I’m having a blast.
