When the World Burns

When the World Burns

I have not been as active on social media and my website as I should have been these last few days. The reason for that is that I was visiting family in a place that had no internet. Well, rather, I could go places nearby to get internet, but the house had nothing. Which meant that I was limited to data use and that makes things a little more difficult. Anyways, I digress.

The interesting thing about this trip is that it had been planned far in advance. I have a theory that the further out a trip is planned, the more likely things are to go wrong. As it turns out, I was right.

See, California in the fall is dry and hot. Which means fire. When I arrived, the only fire burning was at 10k acres. When I left, that fire had spread to 54k acres, there was another fire burning in Southern California, not to mention a couple of other small ones had started. In the midst of all of this, the power company decided that it needed to check all its lines to be certain that they wouldn’t cause another fire and that everything was tickety boo in regards to the high winds. This meant rolling blackouts.

No power means I couldn’t charge my phone to use the data. I had to conserve power. And I also couldn’t write, because I had to conserve power on my laptop. Taking all that into account, my brain officially has no idea what’s going on.

Tuesday. Not only is it Tuesday, but it is the Tuesday after flying (which is the worst way to travel) across the country. I’m a bit exhausted. Honestly, I have no idea what I’m doing right now. I do have a few things scheduled, but I might take one more day and nap a little this afternoon. Mostly because I’m fairly certain that any words I try to form are going to turn into mush. Sorry, book. You’re going to have to wait a while.
