Dictation

Dictation

Testing testing

Alrighty, things are changing. I have recently started using dictation software in order to write my documents. The reason I’m doing this is because typing is, a) slow; and B) sometimes difficult for my joints to handle. Therefore, I am now going to be using dictation software.

Historically speaking, the art of storytelling has been done via an oral tradition. This dates back to the time of prehistory, when all information was relayed through speaking and through the telling of stories. In such famous authors as Homer have perfected the art. The Odyssey and the Iliad were both spoken stories as opposed to written ones and were only transcribed later. Modern technology has allowed us to write words down.  The invention of writing, alphabetical systems, and means of putting words to paper such as ink pen and and the creation of paper, allowed for people to collect history and stories and information in a way that made it able to be stored for later use. In the latter half of the 20th century, such inventions as typewriters and computers have furthered this process. People can write books and screenplays patents notes and memos as quickly as they would like and even make livings by it.

With the advent of further technology such as AI and deep learning and speech recognition, the ability to write becomes once again a spoken tradition. I am going to use this software to write my books faster and to save my joints for future use. As a writer, the writing of books is obviously my main goal. Therefore, it makes sense for me to do this in a way that prolongs my writing ability.

That being said, I do find it very interesting the ability to write by means of speaking. This whole process is very much outside my purview and I am adjusting. It’s going to be quite the learning process and I think it can be very good. Of course, speaking punctuation is a bit unusual. But, I think I will get used to it.

This is going to be a shorter blog post than usual simply because I have a huge amount to do today. However, I should like to inform you that this entire post has been written by means of dictation software. I have written everything into a Google docs and I’m copying it directly to my website without any edits. All of the words and punctuation and everything is exactly as it was entered into the document by the software. Let me know what you think, because I am very curious.

Keep writing. No matter how you achieve that.
