Beeswax

E. G. Stone · May 18, 2019 · Leave a Comment

For some time, now, I have been thinking about getting into beekeeping. I really like bees and what research I’ve done suggested that I would enjoy beekeeping. Being back from Edinburgh, I am also in a position to do beekeeping.

Then, I discovered a problem. I have considerable severe allergies. I take allergy pills every day, all year, and they aren’t the generic kind. Some of these allergies are to tree resin and pollen, the worst being cedar trees and the like.

Now, beeswax is made by the bees with wax secreted from their abdomens and strengthened with propolis, which is made from resin taken from tree sap. Okay, problem. It might have been okay. Sometimes, especially with the allergy pills, I can come into contact with allergens and be fine. Other times, not so much.

This is one of those not so much times. So, not only is beekeeping off the table, but I now have to buy all vegan skincare to avoid getting it in my skincare routine. I’m a little bummed out, to be honest.

I’m also looking for something else to do to get me out of the house and give me some interesting experiences to write about. With beekeeping, though, it looks as though I shall have to stick to research and putting it in my books.
