In less than two months, I will be heading back to the States in order to pursue writing as a career. If you have been following me at all, this will not come as a surprise to you. The fun part, though, is yet to come.
Up to this point, I have been slowly building my author platform. I have been trial-and-erroring my way through social media and marketing via social media. I have been creating and uploading YouTube videos that, while I think they are good, are probably not going to make film history. Slowly, I have been building up a collection of people I really enjoy communicating with and who are also trying to make a go of it in this world as writers, too. I think that I am doing decently well.
That being said, I am also in the stages of trying to figure out how to improve my author platform. I have been coming up with plans.
These plans mostly include things on the marketing front rather than anything to do with my writing (beyond what I’m already doing). I have been thinking about how to be more proactive with Facebook – the most frustrating of my social media sites. I have been thinking about how to improve my YouTube channel (so many ideas!) and ways to engage with readers and other writers beyond just saying, “I’m writing, today.” Because, well, duh.
All of these plans are being written down and thought out. I could just implement them now, but I won’t. Why? Because I am still in the middle of working on my MSc in Applied Linguistics (thank you, dissertation). I have very few resources here and a limited amount of time to dedicate to these things. There is still a lot that I can do from where I am, and I will. But the more interesting things? The fun things?
Give me a couple of months and I’ll reveal all!
